It’s Easy to Get Involved

Prospective member meetings are held several times a year. Those interested in joining the JLC are encouraged to attend an informational meeting to meet current members and learn about our dynamic volunteer organization. Contact the JLC for information regarding specific meeting dates and locations as well as more specifics regarding membership requirements. Contact Us for more information.

Membership

The League experience begins with the New Member (previously referred to as “Provisional”)  program. It includes many great events designed to better acquaint interested women with both the Junior League and the city of Cleveland. In an effort to be more sensitive to time constraints of women today, it is possible to create a JLC calendar of events that fits individual schedules. Formal subjects include League structure and goals, meeting operations, and presentations by committee chairs. Prospective members also get involved with the current JLC community programs and fundraisers.

After completing the training, volunteers move on to an Active level and participate in one of the many JLC community projects or work with internal league operations such as Project Development or Communications. Actives, 75% of whom work outside of the home full- or part-time, dedicate approximately 2 hours a week to their chosen program. Projects are all voted on by members, so everyone has a voice. Actives also attend General Membership Meetings, educational offerings, and fundraisers. Guest speakers from the community regularly participate at General Meetings and bring the League in direct contact with some of the outstanding program directors of various non-profits.

Senior Actives and Sustainers are League members who have served over 3-7 years as volunteers with the League and choose to no longer make a specific commitment to a community project, but rather choose their own level of involvement in League functions and projects.

The JLC maintains a website and regularly updates members through a mix of digital and traditional communications updates.  Plus, we have a weekly e-updated keeping the League members informed on all up-to-the-minute happenings around the JLC.

Non-Members are Welcomed, too

Non-members are welcome in a number of ways to participate and support the JLC and its activities. It’s easy to get involved. Here are some ways both non-members and members can be involved:

  • Participate in a JLC project
  • Contribute to a fundraiser as a donor, sponsor, or guest
  • Attend a Leadership Institute course
